U.S. state explorer
Hiring in Canada from any U.S. state
InfraDev employs people in Canada for U.S. companies in all 50 states. We don't employ anyone inside the United States, so your state mostly affects one thing: working hours. Most of Canada shares a time zone with most of the U.S.
Canadian provinces in your time zone
Hire in a province on your clock for full overlap, or one zone away for most of the day.
| U.S. time zone | States | Canada on the same clock |
|---|---|---|
| Eastern | Connecticut, Delaware, Florida*, Georgia, Indiana*, Kentucky*, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan*, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. | Ontario (most of it) and Québec. The Atlantic provinces are one hour ahead; Newfoundland, an hour and a half. |
| Central | Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas*, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska*, North Dakota*, Oklahoma, South Dakota*, Tennessee*, Texas*, and Wisconsin | Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. Saskatchewan stays on Central Standard Time all year, so it matches Central time in winter. |
| Mountain | Arizona, Colorado, Idaho*, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming | Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Yukon stays on UTC−7 all year. |
| Pacific | California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington | British Columbia (most of it). |
| Alaska and Hawaii | Alaska and Hawaii | British Columbia and Yukon are the closest, one to three hours ahead. |
* State spans two time zones; listed under the zone most of its population uses.
What your state doesn't change
-
Employment rules follow your hire's province
Minimum standards, payroll contributions, and workers’ compensation depend on where your hire lives in Canada, not on your state.
-
No U.S. payroll for your Canadian hire
Your hire is employed and paid in Canada by InfraDev, so they are not on your U.S. payroll and receive a Canadian T4, not a W-2.
-
No Canadian entity, wherever you are
The model is the same from all 50 states: we are the employer in Canada, you direct the work, and you receive one monthly invoice.
